Welcome to Hibiscus Handcraft's new website, selling ethically traded, handmade and hand embroidered products bought directly from the women and organisations who made them.
Hibiscus Handcraft is a newly formed business which brings you a unique collection of ethically traded, handmade, naturally dyed cotton bags, scarves, throws and clothes and embroidered bags and quilts from around India. Our products have been sourced directly from government organisations, small family businesses & rural cottage industries. We work with city based projects and desert and rural village communities.
Our aim is to build long term and continuous relationships with these communities and be recognised as a registered importer and seller with The British Association for Fair Trade Shops (BAFTS) and the Fairtrade Foundation.
In order to achieve this aim, our policy is to buy products from organisations which:
- Pay a fair price to the producers: craftsmen, craftswomen and artisans
- Allow the women to work from home or in workplaces with good working conditions
- Do not use child labour
- Preserve traditional skills and provide the opportunity to develop new skills
- Promote self reliance with sustainable employment
- Help families work towards economic security
We are committed to working with organisations which empower artisans to use their traditional skills to earn a decent living, to enable them to support their families and develop their communities through fairly paid and sustainable employment.
